2D Nesting in Solid Edge
Solid Edge 2D Nesting leverages the most advanced, efficient nesting engine to generate best-in-class layouts optimized for two-dimensional cutting of sheet metal, wood, and other materials.
Nested cutting patterns reduce time, waste and cost when creating 2D shapes common in today’s products.
In the video, we demonstrate how you can quickly select which Solid Edge files you want to nest, and how flat pattern data is then automatically extracted, accelerating productivity.
Once you select your parts, Solid Edge identifies shapes with potential issues that need to be further investigated. This allows users to make informed decisions about whether certain cuts can be made, or if a redesign is required. Once complete, parts can be sent for nesting. Additional Solid Edge files, or other industry-standard formats like DWG or DXF, can be added as well.
Solid Edge allows you to conduct preliminary checks on part sizes to ensure they fit within the constraints of the machine tool being used. Also, quantities of parts can be easily adjusted all with great visual feedback on what is being selected. Once complete, sheet sizes can be selected. Multiple size sheets can even be selected to make the nesting process more efficient.
While the nesting process is running, Solid Edge continuously improves the nest, searching for the perfect combination of sheet sizes to reduce waste. You can use different sheet sizes simultaneously for an added advantage. In the example shown in the video, the most efficient nest can be selected based on sheet utilization, or which nest results in the smallest amount of leftover material.
Exporting the nests for manufacturing is quick and easy, using industry standard formats. The nests can also be sent to Solid Edge so additional drawings or reports can be created, or to create toolpaths in Solid Edge CAM Pro.
Additive Manufacturing in Solid Edge
Solid Edge 2020 offers advanced additive manufacturing processes and tools to ensure 3D printed parts are created right-first-time.
Features from print bed orientation to physical thread creation make Solid Edge the perfect way to manufacture parts using generative design, such as in the bracket design example we demonstrate in the video.
Solid Edge Additive Manufacturing provides users with a clear picture of the support material needed for a part. Users can visualize, identify, and isolate parts that will present issues for 3D printing, and resolve issues early in the design process. 3MF and STL formats are supported for final 3D printing, and users have full control over the resolution of the output.
From start to finish, Solid Edge streamlines access to the additive manufacturing processes and tools needed to make your designs a reality.
Data Management in Solid Edge
Solid Edge’s best-in-class integration with Teamcenter allows users to seamlessly and accurately search for files based on name, ID, description, custom attributes, and even shape. Reusing design data is made more flexible than ever, and can be performed using various tools.
A simple way to find a best-suited part in Solid Edge is by running Shape Search. Results are listed with previews in the embedded active workspace pane. If a newer version or revision is available, designers are assisted with notifications on the pathfinder, enabling them to quickly replace and update to the latest working design, reducing rework and errors. Shape Search results can be directly reused in the assembly, improving the overall productivity and efficiency of designers.
Adopting a model-based design approach in manufacturing is supported by product manufacturing information. As shown in the video, critical PMI dimensions for manufacturing and assembly purposes are directly transferred from Solid Edge to the Shop Floor Viewer.
Supplier collaboration is also made quick and easy. You can directly export required outputs like Step, Parasolid, or DXF, and files can later be extracted to a local destination to share with suppliers.
Solid Edge Data Management provides powerful capabilities to facilitate better decision making. Functions like Where Used allow designers to evaluate the widespread impact of a design change. Built-in workflows allow files to be reviewed and released.
Our solution ensures the highest caliber data integrity at scale, irrespective of the size of your organization.
Next Generation Design in Solid Edge
Solid Edge provides users with the ability to make mesh models more useful in the design workflow by automatically recognizing planar and cylindrical surfaces. In the video, we demonstrate scanning models can end up offsetting them from the part origin. This can be easily rectified with new alerts and commands in Solid Edge 2020.
Thanks to our cutting-edge convergent modeling technology, cuts may be created directly on the mesh model. Convergent modeling allows mesh models to be seamlessly integrated into the design workflow, and to coexist with regular B-rep models.
Our solution allows users to add a mesh model into an assembly, making use of regular assembly relationships. The virtual part works and behaves just like a regular part. This allows the user to position it in the desired location very easily to finish up their assembly design.
We leverage game-changing innovation and technology such as convergent modeling and synchronous technology to deliver a fast, reliable design process that no one else can match.
Technical Publications in Solid Edge
The ability to clearly communicate correct manufacturing, installation and maintenance procedures for designs is essential to the performance of your products and the success of your business.
Solid Edge Technical Publications enables designers to quickly create many types of technical documents. Our solution is seamlessly integrated within the Solid Edge Complete Product Development Portfolio. This allows you to work directly with your Solid Edge parts and assemblies, and eliminate the need to convert computer-aided design (CAD) files to a different format.
